Wow, what a week you have had! Thank you for sharing the good, the bad, and ugly. Your comment about wishing that healing could be linear struck home with me. My son has said this to me a few times as he works through a life altering diagnosis. It can be hard for loved ones who can’t “make it better” quicker for the ones hurting, but we keep the faith that it will become easier with time and tons of support as they do the work.
Hope you heal quickly and are back on the roads for spring 5k races! Keep being amazing you!!
Ali! I know the show you should (re?) watch next! Freaks & Geeks!! (But it’s only on Hulu for a few more days 😭) It’s only one season because it was in a doomed time slot when it originally aired in 1999, but it is hilarious perfection. The casting alone is 💯. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery! 😘
I'm so excited that your last 5K time is the exact same as my current 5K PB time. We're twins! Given that I'm not in a brace, maybe the head start will let me beat you to that time of 21:21 😜
Now, how much training would I have to put in to wipe almost 3 minutes of my 5K time in a year? 🤔
I just recently finished No Good Deed on Netflix and really enjoyed it! It’s technically “dark comedy.” Certainly with lighthearted moments! Sending you all the healing vibes.
Keep giving out your kindness and love. Ali you are a breath of fresh air in a world of crazy. Take it slow and take care of that ankle and you will be out there with a PR in no time. Love always wins. You got this!
My RX, soak and roll up an Ace bandage and freeze it. Cut a piece of 1” thick foam into a horseshoe shape or donut with a hole the size of your ankle bone (lateral malleolus). 3 x / day remove your boot, keeping your foot elevated. Place the foam donut around your lateral ankle bone, then wrap with the frozen Ace bandage - then put a baggie of ice cubes on that for a 20 minute freeze out. Adding to eliminating the inflammation from the joint - a short course of high dose anti-inflammatory - Tylenol won’t do anything for reducing inflammation. i.e. Ibuprofen: 1800 - 2400 mg / day in 3 - 4 doses with food. Similar dosage of aspirin rather than Ibuprofen will also give you an analgesic effect (pain relief). Good luck:-)
I did the same thing but for me it was BOTH feet and my foot WAS broken. And it took a podiatrist to diagnose it. Urgent care looked at x rays and said it was just a sprain. And then 2 weeks later I had an appointment with the podiatrist just to get back to running and he took his special views and found my broken cuboid bone - yay! Glad yours isn’t broken!!!
Ah that’s tough with the ankle. Had something similar happen when I was newly post partum and just cleared to workout again. It was an annoying setback but I was able to get back to activity quicker than I thought. Consider doing PT afterwards to help long term.
If you need a funny, feel-good but real/relatable watch, my rec is Survival of the Thickest. It’s a quick binge and season 2 is coming soon. And after that also watch Michelle Buteau’s standup specials.
I feel like you may have read this already, I know I heard the book title somewhere, but Sandwich is giving me life right now. Motherhood and aging and life and it is SO good. Serious, but also laugh out loud funny. Highly recommend.
As for the ankle…OOOOOOOOOF.
I have had two stress fractures in the last 14 months. The most recent while training for a marathon after coming back from the first one too fast. It SUCKS. A lot. I have cried…a lot.
The time does pass. And your body heals. I am sending you a big hug because the world needs more hugs right now ❤️

Ali, you represent life so well! Hang in there, and best wishes for a speedy recovery and relatively uneventful couple of weeks.

Heal quickly, be safe, and stay strong.
Ali- remember that you ARE a helper doing the work you do and putting yourself out there. Even helpers need help 🩷 keep on keeping on!
What a week. Speedy Recovery!

So sorry about your ankle! And Severance is not for you lol
